Fluff your feathers!

David has converted me forever to the wonder of feather pillows! I find it hard to sleep on anything else now that I know how cozy and comfortable they are!

But, I've been noticing lately that mine are getting quite flat ~ and was thrilled to learn a new tip via The Fly Lady! She suggests popping pillows in the dryer on the air/fluff cycle for 15 minutes. I could not believe how fluffy my pillows were after taking them out of the dryer!

Now I'm curious, what kind of pillow do you like?

The same kind of pillows. Love them. I never knew that before, good idea. Question for you. But, did it seem to take out "mustiness"? - I doubt you have that prob. Ours seemed to have gotten like that because of a certin house we had lived in. OR, it happens if (and because) I go to bed with a wet head.

Aw man, Monica, where were you and the FLY Lady when I had some feather pillows ten years ago??
Mine were getting flat and I read the use and care tag to find out they had to be dry cleaned. My cleaners actually took them and gave them new outside cases and refluffed the feathers. Can't remember how much it cost, but man, I didn't know you could put them in the air/fluff cycle in the dryer. Could of saved some money. I sleep on a medium poly-fil pillow now.

i have one of each! i love the feather... but it was always so flat, i would put a regular pillow (that is now just as flat!) underneath. Maybe I'll try tossing them in the dryer... thanks for the suggestion!

I have a Memory Foam Contour Pillow. My doctor recommended it to me years ago because I was suffering from neck and shoulder pain. I love my pillow! I try to never leave home without it, but I never take it to a hotel!!! You can bring home bed bugs!!!

Andy only uses feather pillows and I use the regular kind. I also use a special pillow from the chiropractor to help with neck pain.

I've thought about trying a feather pillow because every time I lie down on one, it feels so good!

I don't know if I have ever tried a feathe rpillow...might have to now that you speak so highly of them.....We have whatever Walmart sells...not great quality but they were in the budget at the time.....maybe it is time for some new ones?

You can also fluff flat pillows, including sofa pillows by placing them outside on a hot day. The heat apparently does something to the filling fibers to restore them to their original shape.

Mr. Steady uses a feather pillow but it's too soft for me and the occasional feather popping through bothers me. I use a firm pillow.

I'm not sure about feather pillows but I usually put a few tennis balls in the dryer with my regular pillows.

Melissa - same here! For me it's memory foam all the way. It's expensive but it's made quite a difference to how I sleep - well worth the investment!

Could you share by any chance where your purchased yours at and what kind they are. I always heard feather pillows poke you and also some even smell well let's just say birdish... Just curious as we need new pillows. I just bought some at Walmart and they are way to firm. I should have know to just wait and here your timing was good on this.

Thanks Monica!

I've never tried feather pillows, myself...I tend to like a bit firmer ones, so I don't know if I would like 'em???

Great tip!! :-)

Yes, down! Ah, I love it! I converted my husband, and now we both enjoy them. Ours are made by Pacific Coast Feather Co and are washable. So when I wash them and dry them (really well with tennis balls) every couple years they are fluffy again. I like the dryer technique in between.

Feather pillows would be the death on me. lol! My allergies go nuts if I even try to sleep on a feather pillow.

I have a memory foam contour pillow that I don't leave home without. I sleep much better with it than I do with a regular pillow.

Memory foam. I love them. And we had a couple free pillows thrown in when we bought the Tempur-Pedic bed so they are in our guest room as well...many guests leave our home with "buying new pillows" on their list. :)

Definately a water pillow!! Took me a little to get used to it but now I take it everywhere I go!
Love your blog - was browsing back through and I think Nov. '05- I think that is the year I seen you made jean bags. Do you give out directions. That thing is to cute.
Thanks- Julia

Bevy -

Mine don't seem musty (though I have some REALLY old ones that are) but I wonder if you put in a scented fabric softener while you fluffed them?

I, too, sometimes go to bed with wet hair and haven't noticed any mustiness b/c of that.

Have a great week!

I love feather pillows too! Although...I have to say that they must be down, not just "feather" or I seem to always sleep on the "beaks and quills" as my dad says. :) The down is wonderful and soft! My husband just got a memory foam one (he likes really firm pillows) and is learning to like it.

Yes the feather pillows are really so comfortable for whole night's perfect sleep. They also support the neck and as well as maintain the body balance. I do have feather pillows in my bedroom and I think they are the perfect pillows for the right bedding.
Thanks
