Names of Jesus Garland - Easter

I'm sure many of you remember the Names of Jesus Garlands I made around Christmas time! I still have mine hanging up - just haven't been able to take it down yet!

But, as Easter was approaching in my mind and planning - I wondered how I could adapt this idea for celebrating the season of Easter as well. I pulled out my Bible and looked for recurring names of Jesus that were sprinkled throughout the passages reminding us of His life, His death and His resurrection.

I finally chose nine words and phrases to use on the circles ~ here they are in order hung (I'll explain why I chose this order in a moment):

* Hosanna
* Son of Man
* This is my body...
* Lamb of God
* Jesus
* This is my blood...
* King of the Jews
* ... given for you.
* He is Risen!

The reason I chose this order is I wanted to sort of walk through how the events unfolded. First, Jesus rode in on a donkey with waves of palm branches and shouts of "Hosanna!" filling the air. The name Son of Man was used many many times in the passages relating these events.

I wanted the theme of Him giving of Himself for us to be sprinkled throughout - so the phrase, "This is my body, this is my blood, given for you." is spread throughout the whole garland. Lamb of God represents the sacrifice and also the Passover celebration.

Jesus had to be the middle one for the same reason it was the middle one in the Christmas set. He is central to all we are, all we do, everything we celebrate at Easter and Christmas. All of it.

King of the Jews was the sign posted over Him as He hung on the cross for our benefit. And, it was a fitting ending to say, "He is risen!"

There are several of these left in my Rusty Robin shop - but I also wanted to post this here as I thought there may be some of you who'd prefer to make your own. Directions are found here.

I hope something here will inspire you to bring more of Christ into your home during the coming Easter season!

I love this banner Monica. I also liked the fact that you picked out the different wording according to scripture and how it happened.
BTW, love the font you used. What is it called?
I don't usually decorate for Easter, but you have inspired me. I may just make one.

Monica,
Thank you for zooming in with that camera and showing us the rough edges. I would be freaking out if my eges weren't completely perfect.
You give us permission to not be perfect...sometimes I need that!
Love, Dawn

I enjoyed making them at Christmas per your instructions. Many that I gave to still have theirs up too.

What a great idea. I'll be working on that project this afternoon and tonight while my husband leads youth club. There are so many Advent books out there and I was wondering if you knew of any Lent books...something to prepare my littles on the meaning of Easter.

Thanks for the great idea. I can't wait to work on it!!

For the font: I used Sandy Text size 40. For the longer items - I used size 36.

Hope that helps!

Thank you for sharing your creations in such a thoughtful way. You are kind in such a beautiful way. I am blessed by your generous ways. I am thankful to God for it. I made The Christmas garland and gave it to family for a Monica-made homespun Christmas (along with super creative chalk board display plates...wonder where I got such a fab idea :P) I am going to make this today. Just completed felting the dryer balls ( I had to start over almost did not felt the smaller balls first oooppps) and It was super easy but just needed to take the time to sit and wrap the yarn balls. It is rainy here in Texas...a cold dreary day, so it was nice to have a God inspired idea to find on your blog that will add blessings and beauty to my home. Smiles, Angelia in TX
